Immovable Objects

(I'm guessing yesterday I was suffering from a 24 hour bug. It appears to be gone now, so time to get back on track with NaNoWriMo.)

For as much as Cindy intimidated him at nearly every level, Frederick was doing a fairly decent job of acting like she wasn't a big bully. He refused to be baited by her aggressive statement, and instead pulled up his Excel sheets with the preliminary data thus far.

"So what I'm seeing is only a minimal improvement on neuropathy, but nearly all participants reported significant weight gain." Frederick spun the laptop forty-five degrees so she could see it properly and gestured at the screen.

"So?" Cindy barely glanced at the data, and she flipped her straight brown hair back behind her shoulder in a careless gesture. "I don't see the problem. Lots of drugs cause weight gain. That's not even slightly unusual in this category."

"But not to this degree. In the course of a twelve week study, I've got some people gaining in excess of ten kilos. So far, almost eighty percent have gained at least two kilos in that time. Who is going to take this drug and think it is doing well?" He crossed his arms tightly and held on to his elbows while he waited for her to see his side.

"That's for marketing to figure out. We will tell the physicians to prescribe it, and that is what they will do. Then they will tell the people to eat less and exercise more. Problem solved. Now complete the report so that we can submit the NDA."

Frederick wasn't aware that he was shaking his head as she shrugged off his concern. He thought he knew how to reach her in her own language, so he gave it one more shot. "If you are looking for a long term daily pharmaceutical, and you are offering something that makes people so obese their pain gets worse, how are you going to keep selling it to them?"

Cindy was losing interest in his negativity. "I told you. Marketing's problem, not yours. Finish your data and get it to me by the end of next week." She walked over to the office door and pulled it open. "No time like now to get it wrapped up."
