Degree of Difficultly

Inspirational song: Clara’s Theme (Murray Gold)

It’s starting to sink in, just how much work it will be to complete this crochet project before the party Thursday afternoon. I won’t be doing much else. I stayed up ungodly late last night working on it, and I fell asleep with the tv playing. It was still on this morning, so I must have hit the remote once during the night around 4 am, to keep it from shutting off. I never really recovered from the lack of sleep.

Trying to crochet a twelve foot long scarf in less than a week involves a great deal of sitting still. While I am not the most active human on the planet, I do get up and walk around as often as possible. Sitting for too long causes extra pain that I don’t need or have time for. By noon today, my low back was spasming hard enough to propel me out of my chair and to compel me to take something to calm the muscles. It kicked in fairly quickly, but that left me reading the scarf pattern with difficulty, and I started to make mistakes. I’ve had to remind myself that no one will be checking my work on it, but I’d still like it to be close to correct.

I took a mid-afternoon break (actually two—the first was a nap) to see Bladerunner. You can’t imagine the effort involved in watching almost three hours of sci fi while on flexiril. Once home, I’ve taken it back up, and by midnight, I was struggling between focus on a Dr Who scarf and actual Dr Who reruns (with pop up notes—I recorded this one early last year and never deleted it). Crocheting in bed, even a comfortable one with lots of pillows for support, is proving more of a pain in the butt than I would have predicted when I started this nonsense. I’m done for now, but I still have ten feet of hard labor left before this getup is complete.
