The last several days have been pretty overwhelming, but for once in a good way. I had an amazing demonstration of how my family and friends care for me, and there should not be a single person who would remain unmoved by that sort of display. I had a great visit with my family, and our group activities were fun and just a little tiring for me. We were out late last night, and I found it particularly difficult to sleep after the performance. I think it had to do with being overly tired, sore from the hard folding chairs in the orchestra section, and not being able to find a comfortable position where my knees and feet didn’t ache once I was in bed. I had to hold it together for several hours in the first half of the day, for a farewell breakfast with my mother and daughters, and a long Rotary meeting. By the time I was alone mid-afternoon, I was done in, and I slept hard for too long. I wandered around in a daze, staring mutely at the television. I dreaded picking up a device on which to compose tonight, but I just couldn’t miss a chance to say thank you to everyone who reached out to me in the last few days. I saw many people I care about over the weekend, and many more said they wished they could have been with me at the party and/or sent me Facebook greetings. This was a big milestone birthday, and my friends and family made it one I will remember for the rest of my life. Thank you all.
