We left the new family of four alone for the most part all day, so they had time to bond. From what I hear, they did a bang-up job of it. Valerie has been extra snuggly, as we expected, because having mommy and daddy be away for two and a half days is forever for a toddler. For all of that, she doesn't seem to hold anything against her baby brother. She is very interested in him, and she spends plenty of time studying him. I hear Dmitri slept through most of the day. I know that is his job, and he is handling it like a pro.
I thought it would take me much longer to put my house back in order after three days of round-the-clock babysitting. I'm actually nearly through it. Or at least getting back to the baseline where we left off. Yeah, all the clutter from everywhere else is still piled in the dining room. But just about everything else is done, so I can tackle it sooner than later.
The heat just won't give up around here, but today we did well keeping things tolerable. We closed windows and blinds early, and I kept it dark and quiet while I was the only one home. I won't pretend it was as cool as an air-conditioned home, but it never broke 80 inside. I can handle it for the few weeks that summer is miserable here. At least I hope it is only a few weeks more until the extended heat is broken by occasional mild days and chilly nights.
