Everyone on the interwebs has the right take on this. For all people complain about how high the cost of living is these days (thanks, corporate greed and your "pricing strategies"), people sure have a lot of disposable income for fireworks. My neighborhood must rank in the top quintile for per capita fireworks spending. Random pops and booms have been going off for weeks, but folks got serious about it starting this afternoon. At least most of them waited until the baby finished her nap. My poor doggies have been huddled in the garage for hours, trying to pretend our block doesn't sound like a war zone.
We were due our periodic rage clean of all the big stuff that rarely moves. We pulled out the kitchen coffee bar, and cleaned the heat register behind it, pulled all the living room furniture to the center of the room and gave it the same treatment, and moved the piano for the first time since, um, maybe since we moved in? So many dust bunnies. So many milk rings under the piano. Not everything is back in place yet, and I'm trying so hard to get it done before bed, but wow. This is hard work. No wonder we only do this much a couple times a year. Pity we live in such a dry climate that dust never gives us a break.
There is good news, for anyone who wants to be able to sleep peacefully in this house in summer. My mechanically-gifted husband figured out what was amiss with the whole house fan. He fiddled with it this morning, and got it running again. Nights were not so pleasant around here for the last few weeks, but tonight will be fabulous. All this without having to buy a new motor ($300) or a whole new fan ($500+), as I was gearing up to do. It's so cool already, I'm feeling an increased sense of peace. Now I wonder, will all that air getting sucked up and away out of the house carry any dust with it? That would be a nice switch.
