Valerie got to visit snow in summertime today. There wasn't a lot of it, and we only looked at it from a distance. But she liked seeing it. This kid loves water, and she mostly loves it frozen.
We drove up to Rocky Mountain National Park with Val and one of our house guests. It was a lovely trip. We had an entry reservation between 9-11, and when we arrived at the Fall River gate, there was only one car in front of us. Love these timed entries! We went up Fall River Road, and my new car handled it like a champ. There were a ton of people out on the road, walking, stopping at all the sights. We walked around the Chasm Falls stop briefly, and then pressed on to the visitor center lot at the top of Trail Ridge Road. This was the first time I had attempted the climb to the top since the first round of cancer, and I took it very slowly, with a cane. I made it to the top, the whole time Val was checking back over her shoulder to verify Grandma was still with her. She also climbed like a champ.
There were elk along the ridge between the road up and the trail, and we got photos of them from several angles. I think Val was still too young to be interested in them, regardless of how much we tried to point them out.
And I just have to say, it was really fun watching that battery gauge go from a quarter charge up to a half as we descended Trail Ridge. I think we used less fuel today than we would have in the little Focus. All hail the PHEV!
