Everything is backwards at the homecoming weekend Stampede pep rally. They march west to east on the Pearl Street mall (a holdover from when there were floats in the parade, which has been hampered with the road closed for pandemic restaurant seating.) The band plays less. There is more talking by coaches. It's all the opposite of what we went for. But that's okay. It was worth the trip to Boulder regardless.
Daughter number one made it to town with plenty of time to spare to get checked in to her AirBNB, and meet us down on the mall to meet the baby and get snacks before the fight songs started. She brought one friend with her, and we met up with another from their college days. I was happy to see them all. Val was a bit shy when auntie tried to talk to her directly, but overall she did well. We think auntie is correct when she predicts that Val will grow up to be a brass player. Tuba is the odds-on favorite.
We went out for pho after the pep rally. My grand-dog joined us, so we sat outside where she was allowed to be. She is such a little old lady dog now, but she is still so sweet. She doesn't like children as a rule, but tolerated Valerie as long as she was the source of food dropping from a high chair. Once grandpa took her out to walk outside the perimeter of the patio, Sheba barked at her like she was a threat.
We get to see our daughter only a little more this trip, but we get to have Sheba all day tomorrow, from breakfast until after the post-game party. Gonna be interesting keeping her separate from the big puppy.
