Meat TV

Inspirational song: Toscana and Fugue in D Minor (J.S. Bach)

Grumpus was fussy today. She came to visit this afternoon, and she just couldn't find her happy. We all took turns holding her, bouncing her, rocking in the rocking chairs, trying to feed her, and everything else that seemed logical to do. Swaddling was good for short bursts. Soft blankets helped to a point. Eventually a clean diaper, a half full tummy, and a Disney playlist on the phone near her got her quiet enough to snooze for a bit. In conversation, my daughter wondered whether Fantasia was on Disney Plus, and I said surely it was. We put it on the TV, and right as it started, little baby eyes started to open again.

I picked her up, and set her across one shoulder, my back to the TV. I got pretty close to it, knowing her vision is still somewhat limited. Once the first notes of the Toccata and Fugue started, her eyes snapped up to the screen. She recognized the music from mommy's playlist, and the bright lights were hypnotizing. She was totally into it for the whole song, mostly chewing on her hand while she watched. It was so adorable. She was born to love that movie. Her mommy and auntie watched it a thousand times when they were toddlers. They both still love it.

Someone on my daughter's Facebook posted a "what's your crappy band name" meme. She looked at it and said Val's band is "Meat TV." She said that was fair. They watch her all the time, more than they ever would a TV, and in essence, she is a bag of meat (as are we all.) It's rare that those memes produce jokes worth remembering, but I hope this one lasts a little while. It was cute.
