All good visits eventually come to an end. We took our older daughter to the airport, to send her home. She will be going through a busy cycle with work and work-related study, so it will probably be quite a while before we see her again. I'm grateful to have gotten an entire week with her this time. Maybe one of these days I can make it out to see her on her own turf again.
We took Valerie with us on the drive, so she could have a little more time with auntie, to develop more early memories of her. We listened to Valerie's music through most of two Disney soundtracks (the Lin-Manuel ones), but when we put on auntie's favorite from when she was Valerie's age (Aladdin) Val zoned out and fell soundly asleep. We stopped by Costco on the way back, and that perked her back up. I rode in the back seat with her, chattering and wiggling the whole time. And strangely, she would not be persuaded to take a bite of my strawberry sundae from Costco, even though the whole reason I rode by her was to share with her.
For the first time in ages, we managed to assemble a quorum to play our D&D campaign. We had to have four people remote in, and one never responded to the group text, but we still managed to play and get things done. It was awfully fun to watch one camera get repeatedly hijacked by a blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty who liked to peer into the camera and see her own face looking back. We also were presented with baby Dmitri like he was Simba on Pride Rock a few times. The best Valerie photo bomb was when she kept sticking her feet up to kick her daddy in the chin, but stayed otherwise hidden out of frame. I have to hope that the next game night for this campaign isn't so far off that we forget all the progress we made tonight.
