Have you ever seen a kid faking an injury or illness for sympathy or to get out of something they just don't want to do? And then they lose focus and forget to play it up? Depending on circumstances, it can be really funny or really cute when they are called on it.
We were watching something on the DVR this evening, with the puppy doing her usual rolling all over the bed. She demanded to be let out to go potty. While I waited for her to wander around in the snow and try to eat dropped bird seed, I went to the treat cabinet and got her a milk bone. She ignored me when I asked her to come in, so I went back in to watch TV, and set the dog cookie on the bedside table. She barked when she finally got cold and wanted in. She trotted into the bedroom, found the cookie, and got so excited about it that she jumped up on the bed and settled down to crunch.
She has been making me lift her on and off the bed for two months. A couple of weeks ago she was running away from a bath and made it on the bed herself via the blanket chest at the foot of the bed, but no amount of persuasion has convinced her to repeat the trick since. Tonight that little stinker forgot to pretend she couldn't jump. I may have to be mean for a few days and not lift her, so she gets the message that she has to do it herself now.
