Nearly everyone in the room with us got the memo. There was a lot of pink in the theater. I went to see the Barbie movie with my daughter, son-in-law, and one of their friends. Three of us wore vivid pink. Son-in-law was dressed more somberly, but since they had done a double feature with Oppenheimer, he was appropriately representing the other movie.
We absolutely loved Barbie. Mr S-P didn't go with us, choosing to babysit the grandkids. Maybe he imagined that this was going to be a frivolous little movie about dolls. Yeah, not so much. There was a whole lot to absorb, and I can't wait to see it again. My favorite part was America Ferrera's rant about how hard it is to deal with all the layers of double standards you have to navigate to be a woman. If I thought I could do it justice, I'd try to repeat some of it here. Instead I will ask you all to see it.
And I'm thrilled to report that my all-time favorite Barbie made a brief appearance: Growing Up Skipper. I'm still happy that she got a shout-out.
In non-Barbie news, I learned last night that King Soopers had gotten in a plant that I have been craving for months. Three new philodendrons hit the scene this year--white princess, white knight, and white wizard. They are all similar, but the variegation on the wizard jumped out at me as the most beautiful. I'd seen the princess before, and I considered getting one, but it just never seemed the right time. I'm glad I waited. The white wizard is incredible. I looked through the handful at King Soopers, and came home with the prettiest one. I'm so excited.
