Inspirational song: Golden Years (David Bowie)

Tick tock, on the clock. Yesterday left me sore as heck, so I did the logical thing and stood up all morning doing major plant chores, and spent all afternoon with my kids walking circles around Lowe's and Walmart. I texted Mr S-P and announced that it was probably a popcorn for dinner night, with a side of heavy painkillers. I managed to be a responsible adult just long enough to make myself a sandwich instead of popcorn, but the medication is working its way through my system as I type, so early to blog, early to bed.

I was so proud of how immaculate the kitchen was yesterday, so naturally I covered it in potting soil and plant trimmings today. I had several plants that needed attention. I snipped back some tradescantias and added propagations to some of the pots. I had promised one to J, and I gave that to them this morning. I increased the pot size on the philodendron little apple, just in time. It was busting out of the pot it came in. I used a plastic nursery pot that was one size bigger, and I think it's happy now. Then I turned to a project I have been waiting to do since this whole house plant obsession started. I had an alocasia polly on the struggle bus. It needed to be removed from dense, nutrient-depleted soil and put into a well-draining mix in a better pot. I dug it out carefully, looking for any corms (alocasia babies) that might be under the soil. I found three, all dried up and dead. I then apologized to the plant for neglecting it for so long, and wished it good health and growth. Let's hope.

The trip to Lowe's was really just a scouting mission. I have been wanting to put a curtain rod up on the front window so I can hang plants there, but I am unsure whether the kinds I find can support them. I know it's dependent on how many supports there are and whether they are in studs or not. I went looking for prices, and I searched in vain for any indication how how much weight the bars can bear. At this point, I'm annoyed with what I found, and am leaning towards buying a bunch of brackets and a plumbing pipe. Would probably be cheaper and sturdier.

The trip to Walmart was literally for one thing. You know how that goes. I needed a cover pot to put around the plastic I used for the philodendron. I know from watching shopping videos that the prettiest ones at the best prices are there. For all that I slagged on Walmart for years, they really stepped up their game when they came out with the Better Homes & Gardens line. I stopped turning my nose up at the store, and I've put that stuff all over the house. Of course one pot turned into three, because they are so damn cheap and so cute, and I already had two places I needed them. Then my daughter got to control where we went, and we ended up covering most of the store. Dmitri had time to complete his nap and wake up, and Valerie was so bored she lay down in the cart and fell asleep. My one item turned into three pots, a scent diffuser from clearance, and stuff to make stew and brownies (separately). But you know, I didn't buy a single plant today. So... yay?
