Not all of the accounts I follow on Twitter are devoted to cats or current events (although most of them are). I also spend an inordinate amount of time reading medical and disability Twitter, especially the people who use a hashing "NEISvoid." That stands for "no end in sight," and it is a fantastic place for people with chronic illness to compare notes and get questions answered. Sometimes it can leave me with a whole new set of questions, as I run down rabbit holes, but more often than not, it is simply comforting to find community and commiseration. It is too easy to feel isolated when you can't keep up with the "normies," but places like this do exist, and are a great source of support. I highly recommend finding your people this way. Just one word of caution: in these forums, hold back unsolicited advice. Unless someone wants recommendations, they may just be venting. It's what I do here a lot. I vent. When I need problem-solving, I ask.
While some things are firmly in the no end in sight void, there is hope on one front: the heat dome is expected to break in my part of the country. By Friday, the high pressure will relent, and cooler air moves in. There is even a chance Saturday could be the day I wait for every year. It is supposed to be rainy and barely reach 60 degrees. If that rain is more misty and drizzly than pouring, we will be in business.
I need to watch a national forecast. While we are getting relief, I don't know what the southwest and west coast are getting. I fear they may still be stuck in this awful pattern a bit longer. Everybody think good thoughts for them to see some cooler, wetter air. If anyone needs a break, it's our neighbors to the west.
